George Eugene HullGeorge Eugene Hull

master craftsman

We'd like to share one of Chunky Bling's best-kept secrets with you. His name is George, and he's our ceramist! He designs for us one-of-a-kind, custom-made, ceramic beads, and they are beautiful! His studio is in Los Angeles, and we are thrilled to be able to feature his work in our jewelry. George has been working with clay for over 45 years. He has experience with every kind of ceramics possible and is truly a master artist.

George does not use molds to make any of our beads. He prefers hand-shaping them, and we love the organic look this produces. Truly, no two beads are exactly alike. All beads are shaped with great care, hand-glazed three times and kiln-fired. Beads are then inspected to ensure that there are no sharp edges or other defects. The entire process of creating a bead takes about ten days start to finish! We use George's ceramic beads in many of our watch bands, as well as some bracelets and charm clusters, and we guarantee that you will not find these beads anywhere else. At Chunky Bling we pride ourselves on the quality of the beads we use in our jewelry, and George's ceramic beads are a wonderful and unique part of many of our products.

Jewelry Education - George Eugene Hull

George's Background

George has a rich background in ceramics. He earned his Bachelor's of Science in Studio Art, and then went on to earn two higher degrees: a Master of Art and a Master of Fine Arts. He worked at Clay Works, a pottery in Canoga Park, CA, and interned with the late Rod Callahan, a well-known potter in the San Fernando Valley, CA. Joe Soldate, Susan Cash, and Ed Forde are influential in his work. As a ceramics instructor, he spent many years teaching others the art of working with clay, and is now enjoying his foray into bead-making. George states, "I remember as a kid in elementary school enjoying 'playing' with clay. Even the smell of the moist clay, wrapped in damp wet towels inside a galvanized 5 gallon trash can, was exciting to me. The three most influential people in my ceramic endeavors would have to be Joe Soledate, Rod Calahan and Cynthia Bringle...not the great lessons that they taught me, but the respect that they have for clay."

We'd like to thank George for the beauty and art that he contributes to Chunky Bling. His beads truly enhance our jewelry, and he's a pleasure to work with.
